@WhtMike2006 Tonys “death” is barley implied… at best AJ was killed.. cuz we saw the last scene thru AJ eyes…. and then it went black. Tony could have easily survived. Chase did this to many episodes … leaving the audience to decided what is the meaning of the ending. ……example,.. who killed “Renata” Heches’ girlfriend… considering Tony owed him a lot of money.. and Tony walking away with a huge smerc on his face…. thank you Chase for leaving a bunch of loose ends…
Just watched the finale a while ago and Im still in awe. Hard to believe its actually over..Without question the best show iv ever seen on television. fuck im really gonna miss some of these characters…
The cut to black is great. Believe what you want to believe…
the lights went out because the entire story of sopranos was from tony’s point of view.
there was a comment from an earlier episode — you never hear the bullet because it travels faster than the speed of sound. tony was assassinated in a diner in front of his wife and children.
RIP sopranos. A show that defined what television could become.
@mauriciobattis Yeah, the new HBO series suck. I miss Sopranos and Six Feet Under! -Both had genius writers, and both “died” way before they had to. Now we have what, “Gossip Girl” etc? DEPRESSING.
@WhtMike2006 yeah and another thing i noticed is the way the song ends…it stops very sudden..like when the power(electricity)stops..only this time its not the electric power, it s possible Tony s life.
@lizzylizardson Chase said many times that there was no way showing Tony dead could ever pay off. He was never opposed to the idea of killing Tony though. Notice how all 3 at the table eat the onion rings whole, like wafers as their last communion together. Every time the bell rings, Tony looks to the door and we see his POV. When Meadow comes in, the bell rings, he looks up, and we get black as his POV because he “never heard it coming.”
@SamWhitemoon1 Why? He’s said there is one ending to the shoe and that “it’s all there for you to watch.” Most people that have watched since day one know what the ending is supposed to represent. During the entire last season, it’s practically spelled out.
@ryani1981 remember the good times..that s really subtle….and did you see the way the guy going to the bathroom shifts his body when he passes next to Tony? that s a signal for the 2 black guys he is the mark… after seasons of murder and brutality, not showing when Tony gets whacked is brilliant……

Such a nerve wracking ending, still think it was pure brilliance.
greatest show ever!!!
@damek666 Judging from your other comments, you’re a clueless troll. But I guess your theory is no theory.

it took me 3 times watching it to realise he was dead
this ending is perfection, just another day in the life of a mob boss, family man, etc. froth with danger, ill motivated kids, troubled marital life
@skydark It is a brilliant ending indeed… the genius of it, i say bravissimo David Chase!
This is brilliant. To hell with everyone wanting a nice little wrapped, bow-tie wearing ending.
